Proportionate Regulation Needs an Exit Ramp

Albertans for Proportionate Regulation argues that any restriction should include an evidence-based correction mechanism.

Good rules can still need correction

Bill 208 would come into force one year after Royal Assent. A proportionate bill should also say what Alberta will do if the evidence shows unintended effects.

The exit-ramp model

  • Set youth-access and illegal-supply indicators before implementation.
  • Publish results by region.
  • Review the rule if legal access falls but illegal availability does not.
  • Report to the Legislature before making the restriction permanent in practice.

Why this is not delay

The Economic Future committee page shows Bill 208 is already in a review process. Asking for a measurable exit ramp is a practical way to make that review useful.
