Proportionate Regulation Means Answering the Order of Operations

Albertans for Proportionate Regulation says the committee must decide enforcement, evidence, and scope before deciding prohibition.

There is now a meeting date

the Economic Future committee page lists November 4, 2026 as the next meeting date. That makes the order of discussion important.

The right order

  1. Define the harm.
  2. Identify the source channel.
  3. Measure current-law enforcement.
  4. Compare alternatives.
  5. Choose the least overbroad option.
  6. Set a review date.

The strategy supports measurement

Alberta’s Tobacco and Vaping Reduction Strategy includes prevention, protection, cessation, and knowledge translation as strategic directions. A proportionate Bill 208 review should measure each of those, not only product availability.
