Proportionality Means Using the Pause to Test the Tool

Albertans for Proportionate Regulation says the Bill 208 pause should be used to test whether the tool matches the stated problem.

The tool should fit the problem

Bill 208 proposes a flavoured single-use vaping product restriction. Alberta rules and enforcement already applies age, ID, display, advertising, location, and fine rules. Proportionality requires showing why those existing tools are insufficient.

The pause test

  1. Define the harm.
  2. Identify the channel.
  3. Match the enforcement tool.
  4. Publish the review trigger.

Why the calendar matters

the committee page lists no scheduled meetings as of its October 9 update. That gives MLAs time to answer the proportionality question before another vote.
