Committee Next Steps Need a Proportionality Test

Albertans for Proportionate Regulation says the committee should test whether Bill 208 fits the evidence before moving it ahead.

The test is basic

the September 24 agenda listed Bill 208 next steps. A proportionate next step asks whether the rule is targeted, measurable, enforceable, and reversible if it misses the problem.

Four questions

  1. What evidence identifies the source of youth access?
  2. What enforcement tool reaches that source?
  3. What legal adult access remains?
  4. What public indicator triggers review?

Why this matters

Bill 208 changes access to flavoured single-use products, but the public record still needs to show whether the restriction is the least disruptive way to reach the stated goal.
